Just a quick alert to an item that I just put up on Printables.
I’m sure that many of you are aware of the dust collection hose adapters that allow a connection to be made using magnets. These work quite well, but most of them seem to be for the 4" hose.
On my LR4, I’m using 2.5" hose and wanted to be able to quickly disconnect and move the shopvac for cleaning or other maintenance stuff. There IS a version for the 2.5" hose, but it’s pretty expensive and also requires clamps to attach the hose.
My version is actually threaded so that it doesn’t require clamps. As a result, it’s much more compact. Of course, this is for connecting two hoses rather than attaching to a machine, but this would be a fairly straightforward change.
Very nice. Although I hadn’t seen yours, I’ll edit the listing to point to it. That way, if someone has a different thread they might not need to re-design.
There is no need or advantage. Just as with the commercial units, only one side is loaded with magnets. In my case, the other side is simply steel washers. So, one must put the two pieces together and then rotate either direction by about 36 degrees until it attaches.
Note that the x-y alignment is accomplished by the presence of a shallow lip on one side so that the only movement needed is the small rotation.
This isn’t intended as a hijack (I don’t have any 2.5inch stuff here) but some may find something useful in my “dust collection” collection for larger sizes.
All have been in use in my workshop for several years.
It’s not quite on the scale of gridfinity, but also my vac connectors have had many remakes so there’s a fair chance you’ll find something to fit whatever you have if you aren’t up to designing your own.
Yes. It’s clear, isn’t it, that if one wishes to have magnetic connections, had a 3D printer and a certain level of design skill, you can go far beyond the commercially available solutions.
I actually purchased the Woodpecker version before I did my own, but found the necessity for clamping to be a shortcoming, as well as the limited formats.
