here are some impressions from a student project. They made a pair of downhill skis using the LR4 for the template for cutting the ski base and bending the steel ski edge. The core is made of ash and the LR4 was used to taper the thickness towards the tip and tail. And also the press mold was milled.
After the lamination both ski were together in one part. They were cut out by jigsaw and the edges were smothened by belt sander. to protect the ash against moisture, the sides were painted. In the future i want to build in a proper sidewall, probably out of epoxy resin
steel edges. you can buy them as strip stock. then you bend them according to your ski contour an superglue them provisionally to the ski base, as shown in the sixth picture. they have these little wings and when you laminate on top of the ski base with the steel edges they are proper fixed to the ski.
