Door Sign

Created a door sign for my daughter. My first finished project, still learning the ropes with the machine and software, but really happy with how it turned out, errors and all. Excited to keep experimenting with the MPCNC.

That turned out really well. Congratulations

Very nice. What software did you use to design it?

Thanks. I 3D modelled it in blender and used fusion to do the tool paths. I’m completely new to Cad workflow and Fusion so there was a bit of a learning curve.

I like it! Can you tell us more about your blender design process?

That’s really impressive, especially for a FIRST project!!

well I was given a brief and rough design concept by the client

I did my best to match the feel, Although I didn’t capture the lovely original font, perhaps next time.

I think I got the cat though.

I poly modelled in blender and then exported the model as an .stl I brought into fusion and did two passes Adaptive clearing with a 3mm pineapple and then a parallel finishing pass with a .05mm ball nosed spiral tapered bit. If you look close the lines are visible, i tried to sand it out where I could be all part of the learning process. It was a fun collaboration.

Also you can see a couple of places the Z height seemed to come out wrong (line across the bottom part), not sure why. Some bits of the flowers were chopped off, I presume because I didnt accurately input my milling bit dimensions in Fusion. Any advice on overcoming some of the issues present appreciated.

did you happen to record it while cutting, that is simply amazing!

Fusion for toolpath huh?

did you also use a ballnose?

man, the more I look at it the more I TRULY appreciate it. You did amazing!

yeah, ballnose thats the correct term, sorry, I’m manufacturing noob. Im not new to 3D though worked as a 3D artist in educational software for a while. I just never used fusion before.

so there is more than a ballnose, there was a wide tool for the letters, looks like a 1/8 or 1/16 used for the deep flowers and a ball nose for the rounding, did I get everything, LOL?

Hey Ryan, this is one for the gallery/Insta!

yeah thats it, it was about 1:45 for the main clearing with the 3mm bit and then about 5 hours with the ball nose doing the fine parallell pass. I would really like to learn more about how you can get a smoother finish etc. Im probably doing things in an odd manner. I didn’t record it unfortunately but I will do for the next project.

I really need to use mine more. This is the stuff I always wanted to do! I need to look into fusion, already trying to get time for Blender!

Well, that is a stunner. You might think you are a beginner…lets just move you straight to advanced!

Man, just jumped into the deep end of the pool. This looks awesome! :tada:
I have been in it for five years, doing really complicated inlays, but I’ve never dared to tackle a carve like this. So I’ll second Ryan’s opinion: you are an advanced user now. :face_savoring_food:

Wait a moment while I pick my jaw up from the floor…

Holy cow, that is truly amazing! Well done, sir!

@Dathi - How did you model the leaves, flowers and cat? Were you able to work from a template, or did you design each one by hand?

I would love to try to design something similar for my two grandchildren. I’m mostly familiar with Fusion for 2.5D design. This looks like it would be stepping up a level from there.

Hi, Yes i modelled them in 3D in Blender, there was no template other than my daughters drawing. I just modelled one leaf and then scaled and repositioned copies of it, similarly for the flowers I modelled one petal and then used an array to make the flower.

Holy schnikes!!!

A noob?!

If this is your first ‘cut your teeth’ project I can’t even imagine where you’ll go with this!
