Well it’s not a fancy inflated box or some real pretty art but I did use the CNC to make it lol. Got tired of the dust from sanding and just general stuff. Have had this squirrel cage fan laying around for a while now with the intent to build a filter and finally made time to do it!
Drew it up in fusion real quick and then used the full sheet LR3 to cut it all out. Box came out perfectly square. Also used the primo with laser to cut out the 1/4” side pieces on the outside of the filters. Found out it’s not so square lol.
Used 2 5v relays and a D1 mini to control them so I have remote control and high/low speed. Also threw an Ah20t in there just for kicks.
Since talking about it on the other thread (cant remember which one) a few weeks ago I came home and have been doing a few things in esphome. Set up some valves on my compressed air supply to shut it off and let the auto drain function each night, and another on the bottom drain on the compressor. With our humidity here it makes a lot of water. And we are using a lot more air now with the laser so want to keep it as dry as we can. And also threw a AH20T on that as well cause why not…
Also set up a filament weight sensor that weighs the rubber maid container and can give me a percentage of how much is left on the spool. It fluctuates a little based on the temp but its close enough.
And I ordered a current sensor and some push buttons. I’m hoping I can figure out how to sense when the spindle turns on and have it automatically turn on the dust collection. I have a bunch of relays so powering the dust collection is the easy part, getting it to read that the spindle is on is the hard part lol. If I can figure that out then the next phase is automating the blast gates lol. And the push buttons I’m hoping I can set up a box with different buttons to control the various things, one to trigger the water drain for the compressor, 2 for the high/low speed on the dust filter. and another for manual dust collection on/off.
I am learning a lot and its been a lot of fun. Still a TON more to learn. Currently I need to figure out how to make it turn on the low speed when the high speed is selected on the dust filter. If only high is on then its just still low, needs both for high. I know there is a way to do it I just haven’t found it yet LOL
Here is the .f3d and .step files for it. It needs some adjustments for the filter locations by a mm or so. Its a little too tight. Its a crappy drawing that I was able to make work lol. Might not be as easy for you (or anyone else lol). But take a look and ask any questions. Much easier that me drawing out step by step plans that I don’t have time for today. Also the fan isn’t in the file. I can try to find a cad model of it and insert it if that will help. But the chances of you finding the same fan across the pond is slim to none so you may have to adjust to fit
I’ve seen the same thing done with a box fan. Just doesn’t move the same amount of air as the squirrel cage fan. In the end its just a box with filters and a fan LOL
