DIY 100w CO2 Laser Build. Need Opinion’s

which makes the $400 tube I found on ebay cheaper than the aliexpress one LOL

yeah, lol…I realized that later… That shipping number was a whole lot smaller on the page than the price

thats how they get ya. Hoping you wont even pay attention to it. So excited to get the laser that cheap that you click though the process never paying attention to the shipping cost LOL

Before I bought the big OMTech 100W laser, I was far enough down this rabbit hole that I had already bought all three of those listings.

Well I’m that far down the rabbit hole and definitely don’t have $5k to drop on a OMtech so I guess I will continue on where you left off @DougJoseph Hopefully I can do it justice. Hopefully I can do good enough to convince @Michael_Melancon to build one too and show me how to do it better!

You don’t have to convince me….I’m already on board.

You have to convince my wife

(There might have been some eyes rolling today…)

Not my wife to convince LOL. But ill tell you the same thing I told @Tokoloshe. Sometimes its easier to beg for forgiveness than to ask permission LOL

It’s for her. I don’t really need to convince to do it, just got too much else goin on.

So gotta let some things settle first

Well that sure makes it simpler LOL. Same situation for me.

you obviously have WAY more self control than I do LOL. This dead time at work kills me. Im not home to work on current projects so I end up filling my time here looking at new ones LOL. next thing you know I have 1500 projects all started and 0 finished LOL. I wont even talk about parts I’ve ordered and have no idea why or what for LOL

I can not, and will not, confirm or deny that I am printing out Primo parts on my new Mk4…

Its bad. I went though a phase of wanting to build all these custom sensors and stuff with ESP8266/ESP32s. Ordered all kinds of little stuff off of aliexpress. Now all the labels have deteraited so i have no idea what any of them are anymore LOL. But on a good note i did find my sparkfun boards and weight sensors I ordered ages ago last time i was home. Think im going to build some scales to go under my filament dry boxes and see if i can get homeassistant/octoprint to tell me how much filament i have left in each one based on the weight LOL

omg i came so close to ordering a MK4 just because i spent too much time reading that dang thread LOL. at that point i still hadn’t gotten the V4 printing right yet. Glad i held off and worked on the V4 instead. I really don’t need a 5th printer LOL

I can neither confirm nor deny, that @kvcummins can neither confirm nor deny, that he is printing out Primo parts on his new Mk4.

Well, this is my second FDM printer (I also have a resin printer), but that one was like a first-gen POS with a tiny build plate and I don’t think any of my Burly parts have flat bottoms. Every part I ever printed on that damnable monstrosity curled to some degree. I stopped using it because it was too much of a pain to use for the mediocre results. I had to watch the first layers like a hawk, ready to stop it, and restart the whole thing a couple of times before I got enough to risk the full print. I have not had a failure with the Mk4, yet. The closest was some blistering in the first layer of a couple of larger prints after I had my grubby mitts on the plate, and didn’t wash it afterwards.

I hear many good things about them thats for sure. One day I might get me one. But I already have the V4, Creality CR10s Pro, Ender 5 Pro and an Ender 5 Plus. Hard to justify needing another printer lol. I think im going to attempt to take one of my 3 spare SKR boards and put it on the ender 5 plus and do the Mercury 1 corexy conversion to it and change up the Z setup to give it full tilt and all like the V4 has.

I also keep a bottle of IPA and a magic eraser next to my printers all the time. Best thing to get the fingerprint oils off and help things stick better.

With the magnetic plate, I found that just being careful to pick it up by the front corners, away from the “real” print area, and avoid touching it works best. If I do end up grunging it up, I’m pretty much in my kitchen anyway, so warm soapy water will take that grease off much better than IPA.

One issue I have noticed is that I seem to have quite a bit of ringing. I think my X-axis belt may be too loose, either that, or the table it’s on is too wobbly, and it just keeps shaking itself…

I thought the fancy MK4 had input shaper to get rid of stuff like that?

Yeah, but it probably assumes the printer is built within certain tolerances…

edit: I got the kit. I built it. In my living room. On the floor. Over the course of about a week. A couple of times, was afraid I wasn’t going to get up off the floor…

Ohhh…This just got a lot more interesting…

Extra cool points if you make the Jackpot on your wall in your shop be the actual one running your production machine
