Haha, I actually think it’s great. Since we are not able to congregate on Discord, a chat here would be smashing! Don’t know if Ryan’d appreciate our nonsense… Luckily @kvcummins hasn’t sacrified any goats in a long while.

I am in the Discord, but since it is owned partly by Tencent I am not sure about using it too much any more. And it’s like, 50% @barry99705 in there (which is not a bad thing, but we have to lure him here! :D).

Im totally in favor of it! I enjoy just “hanging out”. I dont comment a whole lot but I read almost all of it!

I’ve been asking for a hangout for years (like a video meetup), but we’ve never managed to agree on a time… right now I’m actually at my workstation with a beer and potato chips. Would love to chat

The things I am always worried about when we talk about it are still very valid.
Troubleshooting in chat helps only one person and then gets deleted after a period of time, SEO, and google search will not benefit from it.
I am not sure how we can keep chat just random BS, that is why I need to see it in action. I can make it so new users can not start one but can be invited, that will help but, 100% they will ask to just chat to figure out an issue and I will 100% nuke it if I see that.

We have a monster of a forum here, it is massive and contains great info. I understand the desire to have a BS channel but the BBQ thread is BS and I love it, I would hate to lose all that in a chat thread.

Make it absolutely clear the chat is strictly off topic. No “real” help.
I had the same conversation with my city when o asked for a forum instead of the stupid chat they introduced.

There is a setting to take me out of it, I just need to find it again.
I see the chat in the discourse forums but for the life of me I can not figure out how to use it or join a channel to check it out.

I must admit that I worry that chats would end up very difficult to find important information. I love that the forum is a trove of information. However, I do understand that it would be a cool casual way to interact on random stuff. Then again, I also really like the spontaneous threads like (which can be separated off and not interfere with the serious stuff):

I believe that is Ryans worry as well. And I get it completely. I think even if it stays around it will end up like the discord and rarely used.
