Degree Scale for Tablesaw

New tablesaw does not have a good way to cut angles because the fence needs to be taken off the table, installed with other connectors etc. Felder has got a helper that also makes sure that you never have to move the scale even when changing the angle because the fence gets moved closer to the blade when putting it in 45°. Can anyone see the mistake below? I put the holes on the arc of a circle which defeats the whole purpose of not having to change the scale of the fence (though it does allow me to cut at certain angles). I even explained to my dad how this was not going to work the way I wanted and then I did it anyway because I turned off my brain.

I now designed a second version with two different approaches: Left the newer scale that felder offers, on the right one the older one but altered a bit so you can push the peg in as well. Seems to make more sense to me to pull the fence away from the blade first. Also, the board that I have left does not fit the newer version (since the first version I cut was similar), so I am now using the most of the board, cutting the second version I like more. Though I just realized that those lines are also prett dumb. Maybe I made another mistake anyway… Let me think this through…

To be continued… :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey, at least it looks good!

New version. Also doesn’t work… If you make a scale and measure stuff in CAD, make sure your measurements of the fence match the actual fence… I calculated with 40mm, whereas it is 67mm in reality. I thought it would not matter, but it was half past one in the night when I did the second revision. Now I am out of the fancy black plywood.

Third revision has been drawn and will be cut soonish. I am just printing a fixture and printed the nob I need. So far it looks promising.

Third time is the charm. It works. Woop!

See how, at all angles, the fence is the same distance to the blade? No more wandering scales, one scale fits all.

Now I gotta fasten it to the table permanently and add some quality of life features, but that’s now rather winging it than with a plan (and lets face it, the plan didn’t work out too well in the first place)…

Side remark: Look at how cleanly the black (Siebdruck) cuts. I didn’t use a single grain of sandpaper on this. Look at the normal plywood next to it… Ugh.
Only real advantage of the new one: It’s got my logo.

Done.

Now fixed to the table with printed holders. The holes let me insert an M5 screw if they should ever move (which I don’t think, they snap on very tightly):

Insert the screw.

The plastic will almost certainly creep over time, even if it’s just a tiny bit, and guess how you will discover it when that has happened?

In other news: The degree scale works flawlessly, the degrees are spot on. I must have made some error with the distances of the holes, I guess the fence is not exactly 67mm from the middle but a little bit more, 0.1 or 0.2mm, when at 45° the length is off by 3.5mm. I just wrote it down on the scale, even though I don’t like maths I am well capable of adding 3.5mm to a measurement.
