Cutting Strut Plates, flipping the workpiece

Youtube is about filling idle time with entertaining videos. Being more addictive and entertaining works better than flexing on awesome projects or being very informative. In the maker area, I think videos catch on if they are:

  • Very entertaining. This includes humor or good rhythm (if that makes sense). Or just making someone feel good watching it.
  • Novel. This could be in the use (I made a guitar I can play on the toilet!) or the design (I hid a guitar in plane sight using carpet scraps).
  • Charismatic. Make people feel like they want to be your friend when they watch it. I think a lot of beginner maker channels are missing this because they are trying to be too professional or have the ā€œdevil may careā€ attitude.

I am certain there is more to it. And luck plays a huge role.

In hockey, I play with guys that get really down if they donā€™t win. They are one player on a 11 player team. There are two teams, a ref, a puck and a sheet of ice. One person is rarely able to determine who wins the game. What they can control is how well they play. This has to be similar in that the algorithm is a bit random, and is looking for attributes you donā€™t care about. The viewers that watch the whole video or share with their friends are not in your control. You can only focus on doing the best job you can at stuff you can control and number of views is out of your control.

OK - just to be clear Iā€™ve watch that about 3 times from my computer, twice from my iPad and once from my phone. Iā€™ve been trying to get the depths right for the inlay for 2 weekends. Just saying itā€™s possible that itā€™s like 12 of us watching it multiple times trying to learn something.

Truth - your videos are awesome and Iā€™m really glad you share them.

Thanks you two, I was really not fishing for compliments and I am not really bummed, but it just amazes me. I had a very shitty cutting hearts video that had like, 40k views for whatever reason.

@dgkeith237 I have a video where I explain in detail how to set up the toolpaths for this in Estlcam with shitty drawings and stuff.

I just cut my strut plates sooooo easily because of this. It is insane.

I love this group, I love this tool!

All depends on how many places YT promotes it for youā€¦

There are some videos I see once in my feed and they never pop up again and it makes mad I canā€™t find.

Some will show at the top every day for a monthā€¦

Try making thumbnails with a ridiculous expression on your face and a clickbait title lolā€¦ā€¦works for everyone else

Did you flip them? :slightly_smiling_face:

Nah, thanks. My brother said I make videos for old people. He said that after the very first real video. Since I really donā€™t do it for the fame I try to keep my mug out of it as well as my voice. Maybe I should change that every now and then.

No, I did them in 3 sections, and zeroed off of the bolt holes. Worked Wonderfully.

I can pull my cnc in the middle of the shop, so I did not need to flip em, needed to move em

Just sprayed clear acrylic on the back side of em, then the front, then mount
