Never underestimate a kid’s creativity
I’d love to get some plans for costumes out of cardboard…
Ah well, another topic we hijacked…

This one I didn’t need to fold , it’s a template for an instrument cluster panel
But you can score a line with the laser with a faster speed or lower power
You can also just trace a line with the laser and cut with a utility knife afterward
heehee, reminds me as a teen I made a tank in the basement, cardboard roll, etc. Parents were impressed, until the 2x4 shot out the cardboard roll, then all the fun ended and i had to dismantle my tank
Then I entered the Army at 18
Don’t get me started- my 80’s Franglaise post modern punk pop panel could do with some love, just when you have the time…
they’re a couple orders of magnitude faster too.
I should have taken more video when I worked there…
Final version is supposed to be cut out of a 2mm thick copper panel
I’m waiting on the production file
Note: not sure why you would use copper in a humid environment but hey… not my boat, not my choice
One of the older ships I was on still had copper rope lifelines. Shining them up was a pain!
Regardless of whether I go laser or a knife, are there any suggestions for a control board?
The SKR Pro 1.2 is more expensive but the Jackpot seems to be newer and better?
I would want to quickly see ~12 gcode files and run one. I would be happy doing this from a computer or tablet, or a screen attached to the LowRider.
I would like the future ability to generate the gcode on a per-item basis with a python script and then get that quickly onto the machine
Jackpot… No question!
If you already had an SKR then sure they are great. But if buying new either way, then Jackpot all day long
If you have one, use it.
Most of my V1 machines use Duet boards, including printers, but I also have fluidNC controles machines as well as SKR Pro boards.
One of the real great thinfs with the V1 machines is the flexibility to use different control software with great results.
As said above, the Jackpot is a great value, being significantly less expensive than an SKR Pro, and having the wifi control is a real bonus. The wifi control is why I went to Duet boards, when fluidNC wasn’t an option. Doing it all now, it would be Jackpot hands down.
I echo what @SupraGuy and @Jonathjon said. If you don’t already have anything, go with Jackpot.
