Cubby craft (ideas welcome)

When I was a kid we called it a den when we stacked up the cushions and threw a sheet over them. I must be old.
But nowadays it’s a cubby according to my kids. I blame too much Bluey.

So not many more sleeps to Christmas and it’s a given that kids, or my kids anyway, get more fun out of playing with the boxes than the toys that came in them. I looked at the playsets you can buy and thought I’d see what I could do.

After door stepping a couple of packaging firms without success I hit paydirt and one of them sold me some sheets of leftover card 1m x 875mm for $1 each.

I tried using the laser to engrave them - and this works but it’s slow. But I made a useful discovery - the drag knife Ryan sells is about the same diameter as a sharpie!

So here’s my progress so far making building panels for a cubby - I’ll keep them hidden till Santa can deliver them.

I’m looking for inspiration and ideas both for content and ways to assemble them.

I tried to get bing image creator to generate a few ideas but the results weren’t practical.
Ideally I’d like to end up with some themed sets, castle, pirate ship, space ship, other ideas welcome…
Also open to ideas for tabbed, slot, wing type connectors. Theres some printed ones on printable but I can’t see them standing up to much abuse.

I’m hoping someone knows a stash of premade pepakura files or something.

For reference here’s some of the sets you can buy

Strewth

Well they’re quick to make but I’m going to new a few more sharpies I reckon.

2 sheets down, 20 to go

We always called them pillow forts.

My daughter is 6 and she sometimes drops into an Australian accent. Bluey is awesome. Or as she calls it, “Bluerry”

The funny thing is, our grandkids drop into American accents! (for similar reasons).

Small Bluey hijack -

“Bunnings” is our version of Lowes - a big box hardware chain. The corporate logo is a big red hammer.

It’s probably just a coincidence that Bluey’s favourite shop is “Hammerbarn”!

Hah, they actually made a Gerald and Hecuba, class.

Oh. That’s great. A long time ago some 7-11 convenience stores were changed into Kwik-E-Marts because of the Simpson’s movie. Hammerbarn seems a lot bigger.
