Got ahead of the printer capability… it was printing asa pretty well. But I should have bootstrapped its own parts before other things… and the belt holder spread and the belt fell out and refuses to go back in. The notched comb part on the lower hotend holder that the front belts press into spread during the print.
It worked great until the lid was finished and the garage was about 98 yesterday. Trying to print a motorcycle clutch basket tool out of asa. This will require using the other printer to print one out of pla then reconfiguring this printer to print one out of asa without the lid and then try again with the lid on.
Reprinted the hot end mount parts in PLA and got it reassembled. It will now reprint the same parts in asa. Tried printing them in ASA on the other printer: printed half way and detached from the bed. ASA has a higher cte than PLA that becomes very apparent when conditions are not right.
How does the shrinkage compare to ABS? I’ve been meaning to try ASA one of these days.
I havent tried ABS yet, but it is supposed to be much worse (2x) than asa. This printer was purpose built for ABS and ASA, but i have not bought abs for it yet. It was planned to be fully enclosed and parts will all eventually be from ASA and ABS. It is struggling with the easy stuff still, but we are getting there.
The PLA printer making backup parts for the one shown above, also a v5, just failed in the exact same way.
The H2V2S lite extruder must be getting too hot and the belt is letting go in the channel right next to where it mounts.
I thought someone had reversed the X gantry and put the belts on the back. I may look into that.
That’s the same issue I was having that lead me to machining a core out of aluminum for my v4.
I didn’t understand exactly why at the time what you were talking about when you made the aluminum core. It had not been an issue for me for like 3 years until two of them on two different printers fail in 2 days. Two of those years it was an h2v2s and both failures were with the h2v2s lite. I was telling my friend 3d printing for me is like owning a jaguar, i hear. You must have 2.
Unrelated but probably now relevant, I was considering putting a 5015 fan on the hot end instead of that little quiet 2010. Had i done it, this perhaps wouldnt be a problem. I think either the housing supports get too hot or the open sides of the lite model leak too much air and heat and soften the core. Not sure yet how best to fix it other than use petg.
Would milling a 3mm Alu spacer plate (oversized above/below that acts as a heatsink with small 1.5 - 2mm fins, and slightly long mount bolts help? Hoping fins grip into printed part enough to make a firm overall assembly, and also, allow heat to spread and radiate/dissipate elsewhere.
Bigger fan sounds good, blower style ideally if you can make them fit.

Deer in the headlights moment… is that belt supposed to be one piece? I think i reused my v4 belts for it and a single never occurred as an option until just now.
I could put in a bridge here, but if it is one piece it won’t work right

I had to go re-export it again… so hopefully it’s the same as I printed it…
Ordered new belt from ryan.
Finished clutch basket removal tool design in freecad and decided to use the ender3 KE to print. It isn’t dimensionally as accurate as my v5 and tends to over extrude.
Printed the part 2mm thick in PLA to test the fit:
Then printed the final piece in PLA and it worked without the top bolts in place.
So that part is done. Still have two v5 printers to fix and an engine to fix, but progress was made.
EDIT: if anyone needs an early 80’s kz550 clutch basket removal tool, you can get the STL model here. If you want to modify it, I’ll give you the freecad file. Just ask.
You’re making better progress than me. One of my bikes has been sitting on the lift for 3 months waiting for me to do a carb rebuild.
