So I’m building a MPCNC based on the Jackpot controller, originally I was going along the router route, but it was mentioned in my previous post that laser maybe a better option as I’m looking at cutting balsa and plywood for RC aircraft.
These two units have caught my attention, will they work with the Jackpot controller?
Are they overkill for what I’m looking to cut?
If your use case is cutting balsa and plywood, you may want to carefully look at the NEJE Machines. They’re quite good, in fact I bought one even though I have LR4s and a small JL1 laser machine with a Jackpot. If you wait for a sale, you can get a NEJE machine for not much more than the cost of a laser module stand-alone.
There’s still plenty of cool things you could do with a small LR4 or an MPCNC- but if your primary interest is laser cut balsa you should seriously consider a dedicated machine.
Also think carefully about how you’re going to manage exhaust for whatever machine you build/buy.
I’ve seen builds come across the forum using both of these two modules. From what you describe, I would say either would be a good match for what you want to do. I have an older version of the A40640 module, and am very happy with what I’ve been able to accomplish with it.
There is at least one forum topic comparing these two modules. If I remember correctly the E40 is 24V, which makes it a bit easier for longer power runs. The A40640 has a variable focus lens, giving the possibility of more working distance between the stock and the laser. Personally, I like having the longer working distance since I often work with imperfect (slightly warped) wood. Both have the same optical power output, so the cutting performance will be similar.
Both modules will work with the Jackpot controller.
