Hey all, first post here. I’m having trouble getting my core to seat on the beam. It’s super loose even when I tighten the adjustment bolts as hard as I possibly can and then squeezing more with a clamp. I can’t get the core to hug the rails well, and when it gets anywhere near close it hopelessly runs into the brackets holding the two pipes together. I’ve got all 8 bearings in, the pipe has an OD of almost exactly 29.5mm, and nothing else has given me trouble so far. My fear is the core warped in my hot garage. And if that’s the case this whole build may be for nothing cause I need to run the machine in my garage. Any advice? Do I need to reprint the core?
You don’t have to crank down on any of the bolts or screws. You shouldn’t need to do that at all. It is possible you over-tightened the bolts on the core and warped it.
If i see right, you only have one brace on the beams, you are way too early to try and tighten the core.
we are looking down the conduit here, there is nothing to prevent the conduit from coming together and you will not get a proper grip! you need to have all the Braces and both ends on before you try to adjust. In this pic, it looks like you may have cracked your core.
It was very loose from the start before I tightened anything unfortunately
Yes the gap did shrink especially in the photo I sent, but that photo is at the end of a last ditch effort trying to tighten it. It was loose before doing anything and is still loose even after deforming it (not past plastic deformation, still elastic) with a clamp. The gap currently looks about the same as yours and when mine came off the printer
Hi, thanks for the response, I wish that were the case but I took this pic after disassembling the beam to get a better look. It was still very loose even with the beam fully assembled and attached to the rest of the machine on both ends. And are you referring to the gap that allows for adjustment when you’re talking about a crack? To my knowledge I haven’t cracked it
What 3d printer are you using to print your parts? And have you tried any kind of “calibration” for the printer?
Perhaps post more pictures of your core and beam?
In his first post he writes that the pipe OD is 29.5mm.
But perhaps the braces are for 30 mm or something odd like that?
I did mine while it was still in beta. So i just took a trip down memory lane. You need those braces. They will MOVE the conduit into position.
no need to reprint core unless you have a crack from overtightening it.
Only 3 parts differ for that conduit
I knew Ryan marked them. You can check to make sure you have the correct ones.
@RockinRiley @waimea well well well folks I think yall found the issue, my braces say 32, not 29.5. Thank you very very much, I was going crazy here. I’ll re print the braces and hope I haven’t bent the core wrenching on it like a cave man. MANY MANY THANKS!
for future users I’ll do my best to update this thread with a confirmation on the solution if it works once everything is printed
It will, because the beam is going to be 5mm wider in total. ![]()
This is my Facebook marketplace printers maiden voyage, after much troubleshooting and tinkering it’s working well so far ![]()
