CNCjs, Repetier-Host help

I’m having a heck of a time (trying to do things with a Mac). I’m new to this, so it’s probably no surprise. Repetier connects to my board but doesn’t communicate properly. My understanding is that it’s an issue with Repetier. I saw a comment that said CNCjs is a good alternative, so I installed that. The UI looks great on it but it won’t even connect.

I thought I could just use Repetier to create gcode files and put them on an SD card to run but the one I tried didn’t seem to work right. All it did was drive the router down into the table when I was testing the gcode (with the router off). So maybe even creating gcode that way doesn’t work if it doesn’t know what firmware it’s talking to? Or maybe I just didn’t do something right in creating it.

So, I either need to learn how to create appropriate gcode with one of the apps I have or I need an app that will work correctly for me. And then probably I’d need some other help too. My son says I need to know what file type. He says there are some differences based on the controller.

Any advice or help would be appreciated.

The test crown file works fine

Just tried a different STL that was made for CNC. Generated the gcode in Repetier, put it on an SD and got the same result. It retracts in the Z direction but then drives the head straight down till it stops even if I zero the Z 100mm off the work piece.

@atchjs

Open the g-code file and cut and paste the first 20-30 lines into a reply. I’ll bet that some of the great code-reader experts will see something right away.

You need CAM to generate gcode. Then you can play it from the sdcard. The test crown was made in etslcam and we have a page for estlcam basics. There is also more info in the software workflow.

What kind of controller do you have? You should be able to connect via the computer and we can help with that too. But we need to know what variant you are using.
