CNC Virgin - 3d printer owner

Built the main beam, however i feel a little light on the braces.

I printed 6 braces and 1 brace max as per the printed parts list. This is for a full sheet build.

Can anyone shed any light?

Nevermind, i’ve run the strut plate generator and left the braces at 0 so it generates it with a reasonable amount and it seems i’m 1 short.5

7 is right for a full sized build.

Should i just leave it as it is then and change the braces to 7 in the strut plate? Or is it 7 braces plus 1 brace max so 8 in total?

7 total, 5 plus the max and a more infilled regular. This should be listed in the instructions. You want the end two more densely infilled for strength.

If the plate generator is giving 8 just use the box to force 7.

Yeh ive printed as per the instructions with the 2 ends at a higher infill. I did print extra temp struts only because i could fit 3 a time on my print bed so just ran the gcode twice.

It was only when i added the temp struts that ot seemed like the spacings were off.

Cheers for clarifying though, really impressed with the work you guys have done and super excited to get it built.

The temp struts are the minimum spacing that it can be and still for the SKR pro, they are not the standard spacing.

Update. Managed to get both YZ plates partially built. Reason for this is because i ordered 4 linear rails of amazon…they only delivered 4.

Will move onto assembling the core later today but will be waiting on the linear rails before i make some more proper progress… sigh

I also made another thing today…

The build is really starting to take shape now, still waiting on 2 more linear rails turning up from amazon. Once here i will tranfer to the garage where i have already mounted the Y rail to the table

When i extended the cables to the board from tbe YZ plate, i didnt quite leave enough to route them correctly, was trying to avoid having loads of slack at the board. Im hoping that once i cut the strut plate and the braces are more evenly spaced i can moved the board box closer and fix my problem.

Looks great so far! Using it is a lot of fun.
The top rail seems to stick out by 0.5mm though, make sure that it isn’t the case with the bottom one or the whole LR will be crooked.

Thanks i cant wait. Yeh i notice that and will double check everything when i transfer it to its table.

We have lifeeee!!!

Got it all connected up and belts fixed.

Powered up and homed all axis

Tomorrow i need to find a small extention lead that can be fixed to the cnc giving me enough slack to travel the table as the power adaoter isnt very long.

Tips welcomed.

I will then start squaring and leveling and maybe do a test crown.

Couldnt video the machine in action as my phone was being used to control.

Hey, nice to hear that the machine is moving, but is that tree pine or spruce? Based on my own experience, I would recommend something harder where the bearing presses on the wood. E.g. mdf.

MDF density 800kg/m³
Pine density 370-550kg/m³
Spruce density 300-470kg/m³

Cheers man, its Redwood, but ill probably swap it out for some MDF having seen your image.

Im yet to get it squared up and running properly which i need to find time for yet.

I have none experience about redwood :man_shrugging:t3:
