CNC a chair mat?

We just got a new rug that goes partially under my desk. I was thinking about maybe putting a chair mat there to protect it. But, I’d want to cut it to size. Maybe put a hole where the table leg is.

How well do you think cutting that with a Lowrider would go? There is some extra size so I could experiment. If it goes poorly, I could just cut it with a razor knife.

I seem to always be looking for a project even though my idea list is plenty long at the moment. Noticed that case in the picture which has my guitar pedal board in it. There’s another project idea.

I would think if you could hold it down well enough you could cut it. Assuming it will fit on your LR. Assuming its the type with the “nubs” on the bottom you might want to go a little conservative with your CAM for the varying thickness the bit could see. Would be neat to see it done for sure!

Or you could do away with the cause of the problem.

Our office chairs (one for me, one for her sewing desk) have the world’s best mod - scooter wheels!

They are soft on hardwood floors, roll over carpet and tile surfaces, and you won’t even notice the edge of the rug is there. Just take care at first - they do tend to roll quite quickly till you get the knack!
