That‘s pretty neat, I will definitely check it out because I need some more boxes for my french cleat for gloves and masks. 
I have been using Gallery - Boxes.py for some of my „irregular“ boxes and then just added the holders to it in the DXFs.
I really like your idea to support custom types as well, until you have that, you can use mine.
