Cleaning up the scrap board

I finally started to cut wood on my new MPCNC today after 3 summers of building on and off. Yay! To secure the wood, I layed down a later on making tape on the scrapboard and another layer on my stock. I then sprayed adhesive on both and stuck them together. It worked fantastic except for one thing. When I was cleaning up, I found that the sawsusy had stuck to my scrapboard! Is there an easy way to take off the sawdust or a way to prevent this from happening again? Thanks!

Blue tape & SuperGlue instead of spray adhesive. Probably work with masking tape as well but I haven’t tried it.

Spray the board then lay it on the spoil board so overspray is some where else. Like on some newspaper.or plastic

@B-26 That’d definitely work but I found that superglue is much more expensive than spray adhesive. Do you know any cheap brands of super glue?

@timonjkl I’m worried that it won’t be able to stick well enough but I’ll try this out on my next cuts.

I forget what I paid but I bought a 24g bottle of Gorilla brand gel (it was a better deal than the Loctite) at Home Depot recently that seemed reasonable considering a piece of tape at the corners with a drop or so at each seems to do the job. I really haven’t looked at sprays so have no idea how they compare.

I tried with regular masking tape, and it seemed to absorb some of the glue or something. Piece didn’t pass my wiggle test before I started, and the tape looked sorta…dissolved? Like wet newspaper? Hard to describe exactly.

Interesting. The blue tape does have some kind of waterproofing on it. I have no idea how someone figured out it would make PLA stick, but it must have some specific kind of plastic in it, because regular masking tape doesn’t work (at least in my test).

The blue painters tape has a plastic backing on it to help with paint lines. It’s very similar to masking tape, but is not the same.

does anyone use this 3m double sided tape to hold down the material:

Our local thrift store Axman Surplus has hundreds of these rolls for only a couple of buck each so I bought several of them.

Super strong hold but easy to pry up with a spatula after the cut is finished.

It has the ability to stick too well.

I’ll be honest. A lot of the issues with various sticky products is why I embedded the threaded inserts in my latest spoilboard. For smaller projects, having clamps that I can use to hold it in place just seems to be easier than the other methods.

My only issue is if I’m trying to cut something closer to the full size of my board. I’ll still need to either screw through the material or use one of these methods.

In the past I’ve also tried carpet tape. It worked great to hold the material, but was a pain to clean up.

As far as getting the sticky stuff off of your table, the easiest thing to do would be to hit it with an orbital sander and some 220 grit. It’ll gum up the sand paper pretty quick, but you should be able to sand it off. Maybe rub some sawdust on it first to remove some of the stickiness.
