Hi, first time I tried trays. One is oak, one is Ash. I am definitely guilty of bit dulling.
They look great. What bit were you using?
very nice, STELLAR in fact, you made leaps and bounds from where you were with not being able to get a straight line! Is Ash a hardwood? I know oak is, very familiar with it.
CONGRATS! and Welcome, just in case I never said it!
WOW, super deep pockets. That is great work right there!
That looks like a toolswap to a round endmill as well without visible lines at the bottom. Neat! ![]()
OMG! Thank you! Those comments are the best Xmas gift for me!![]()
I used 19mm bowl bit (25mm deep pockets), then changed to 6mm endmill to cut out shape.
Oak and ash are both hardwoods. Can’t remember from top of my head but I think Oak is just a bit harder.
Very nice work!!! Thanks for sharing also
The wood in the round one looks beautiful. Nice Job!
Out of curiosity, what was the machining time on those trays? They turned great!
Estlcam said 1:45, but it was actually faster coz I changed speed up. I can’t say exactly, sorry…
Flawless! Really nice work.
I have a big chunk of ash waiting for me to get inspired enough to make something so seeing how it might look is very cool.
Estimate is fine I was just curious. Thanx
Starting with the hard stuff… phew. I never got the bowl bit configured right (I also have an orange tools 19mm one…). I started with 2mm and too fast RPM and too slow speed and worked my way up to 3mm DOC, 3000mm/min and 18k RPM. That did work but didn‘t sound too good… ![]()
I’ve been doing 2mm DOC with 2000mm/min, and makita at 2 was doing ok, but I had to make it nearly 3, because one pass per layer is much more stressful for machine then the rest (I mean the last “finishing” of the layer (in peel machining, that is)).
Curious of your workflow. Design(Fusion?)=>CAM(?) Very nice!!
Work hold down? I had a few years using my Primo and Feel like starting from scratch ![]()
Wow, nice!
I have bought the files → used estlcam → split file into per tool files → drill countersunk holes is ‘safe’ spaces to screw material down → run first file → change bit → zero Z → start second file → realize XY has been reset to zero when I was probing Z → lucky to hit emergency stop before it plunged → spent 5 minutes screaming my head off → wondering what to do → went to print some circles, put them on to find precisely where the middle is (lucky it was circle) → eyeball XYZ basing on paper pattern I made, start second file, and somehow… somehow it worked!
I write this to encourage all of you - beginners like me - scream, yeah, but try again and it will work
eventually… ![]()
Not to mention I managed to ruin 2 fine pieces of oak before it SOMEHOW finished like in the images above. So this was third try which worked.
PS. Now I think about it, I’ve seen somewhere on this forum advice to note place of start BEFORE setting XYZ to zero. Then you can skip making paper templates and eyeballing - you just home, travel to location you noted and you’re good to go. But who would remember about it?!
I love your response as it truly makes me feel encouraged that I am not alone! The chaos you describe fits me ![]()
I do notice some things are getting better and getting more comfortable.
Everyone have a Happy New Year!!
