Get it decluttered/habitable again.
Same here…Hopefully, we can get our garage cleaned out and organized. Get things under control and set up to better suit our needs.
If @Jonathjon keeps on overloading your electric circuits, it just might all burn down, then you don’t have to clean and organize. ![]()
My shop goals for this year:
- Finish my dust collection project that I haven’t finished since I started planning at least since 2023
- Make at least one thing with my LR4, which hasn’t happened since Dec 2024
Four at this time:
- Clean/reorg so that the most recent acquisitions (jointer, mini lathe, and planer) have homes from which they can be easily used.
- Get the K40 laser back up and running, including the motorized Z table and rotary attachment. (This includes adding “drops” for dust collection, and while I’m at it I might as well add a floor sweep, not that the floor has been clear enough to sweep for a while now …)
- Extend the size of the MPCNC to be able to take 20"x30" sheets of dollar tree foam for needle cutting RC planes.
- Finish setting up my grandfather’s 1934 Craftsman lathe and start using it. This requires me to make a choice between using the original motor, or one salvaged from a treadmill to more easily get variable speed.
Only tripped the breaker 1 time. And that’s what they are meant to do. Have everything spread out between 2 20amp circuits now so all is well ![]()
Sigh..
With two and a half benches left to clean, is it too big a task to hope that happens in 2026?
Getting the laser recommissioned and enclosed will be a biggie, as will getting the LR3 dismantled (
) and the enclosure built and electronics sorted ready for the LR5 in 2027 ! ![]()

Keeping the shop organized, setting up dust collection(bought a big delta off Facebook for $20, works great but just in the corner unused for now), make a collapsible wall mount desk to I don’t keep balancing my laptop on paint and trash cans, make a designated place for bits and tool for the cnc. I usually just go “here’s a good spot” and loose them. But the biggest one is organizing the inside shop and make it kiddo and wife usable, well it’s more of a hobby room. The 3d printers,pc and the mpcnc setup with a drag knife.
Side note: both the basement room and the garage my wife calls tinkerland. So if I’m planning on working on stuff my wife asks” Are you going to tinkerland?” Or I tell her “ I’m going to tinkerland.”
I need to clear out all but the top 5 projects in my shop and garage and hopefully get stuff in the hands if others who will use it.
I plan to melt down the failed print pla pile and make flat millable plates for cnc cutting.
I would like to hand off still good stuff like cables, microcontrollers, bolts, and sensors that i will never use to someone else who will use them. Im trying to resist the inner hoarder. I had 4 printers running on Christmas eve. But dont have room for more than 2 long term, so im trying to thin down the collection. One turned back into a pile of parts and one is still in limbo. I want the shop this year to be producing creative stuff, not be a printer/cnc repair shop, which it has been for the last year.
More projects!!!
So close on this one,
I don’t like the base that much. Been futzing with it for a week.
- Cleaning it out!
- Get the sub panel wired up so the electricity of a little more stable!
- Finish the LR3 and get it up and running
- Get back into the forge and knifemaking side of my interests!
