Drawing even the simplest assemblies in CAD first. “Oh wait, a 2x4 is actually only 1.5 x 3.5, that won’t work”
I’m a little OCD sometimes it drives me nuts however it keeps my shop and garage organized. I have a place for every tool and I put them were they go when I finish a job. Sometimes on bigger jobs I will put things away when it starts to feel chaotic and continue on. Saved $8,000 or more by building a full sheet LR4 and have learned a lot along the way. Now I can spend that money on materials!![]()
I am willing to make a huge mess and just get things done but I agree I need things to have a home. I have a couple little random piles, those are waiting for more things in that category so they can get a home of their own.
I even took the time to go through my sockets and organize them. What a huge unexpected time saver. I know what I have and what I don’t have so I am not sitting their digging through a drawer three times to find out I don’t have that size. Actually it saves time when neighbors come over looking to borrow tools as well, I point and either I have it or not, I don’t have to sit there while they dig either. I felt a little OCD doing it but it was by far the best organization time I have spend in the shop.
From past experience I have made a rule when I loan out tools or equipment to friends I write it on a notepad in my toolbox or note it on my phone. I know how easy it is to have good intentions to return something borrowed and it gets covered up by something.
I tried that I now charge a fifth of wiskey equally expensive as the tool too to share on return of said tool.
