Burly to primo upgrade

Hi,

I built a burly sone years ago, a process I greatly enjoyed, but have found it a bit flexible so looking to move to a primo. Couple of questions

  • will the resulting machine happily mill brass sheet 1mm) or aluminium
  • what is the best spindle for metal cutting
  • am I right that the new design has same bearings, NMEA, electronics and bolts but different belts and pulleys?

Thanks Dave

I’ve cut brass and aluminium with my Primo. Just make sure to be patient! Keeping a low z size and a reasonable xy size is also useful. The Makita r0700 works well. You are right about the re using!

Good luck :crossed_fingers:

Thanks for the prompt reply, what sort of cut depth and travel speed do you manage? My biggest issue was tending to go off straight on any long cut

Dave

It’s a long time since I did these cuts. I think I used 0.1 or 0.2mm depth of cut. Using trocoidal cutting, I think you can go as long as the workspace has room.

The bearings, steppers, and electronics can be reused. The bolts are different. You can find a list of the additional items you need here.
