Build Planning - Router vs Lathe

I’m in the parts purchase phase for a MPCNC Primo 24" x 24" with 1" Rails. Intend to initially use the machine for router work on flat material. I understand a minimum ‘Z’ height will provide highest quality.

In the future I would like to add a rotary axis which will need a much higher ‘Z’ dimension. I suspect I could change the length of the four legs to make space for the lathe components. (Recognize the cutting head would no longer reach the spoiler board.) Is the leg height leg change feasible? Or should I plan now for the machine to support the height of ~6" diameter turning now?

You certainly could. That’s one of the benefits of this design. An alternative would be to design with a drop table that you could removed to provide access to your rotating axis. Like the leaf in a dining room table.

I vote for removable table top.

The trend goes towards multiple MPCNCs. You can easily stack them in several layers.
