Best solution for Makita mount and dust shoe?

Hi, I downloaded and printed this one (printables model 244558-dust-collector-for-mpcnc-primo-with-makita-router) but it doesn’t seem to be compatible with the z-rails or I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I’m considering scrapping this option and finding another. What is the best mount and dust shoe option available for a Makita 701? It could be integrated or separate. I sincerely appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,
Jason

I used this when I still had my primo, you need to take off the normal tool mount and screw this on.
It’s, imho, the best dust collection for the primo.

From my memory, this looks about right.

Thanks!

Welcome! Glad you found the answer you needed, but unless you accidentally shared something you need to keep private, please don’t delete posts.

One of the big upsides of a community like this is finding solutions that others have shared previously. Deleting posts means that this thread is less useful to those coming to it later.

The original post had an image with private information, and each time I’ve tried to post a new image it has shown the original image - not the new one. I’m wondering if it’s a cache issue. In any case, that’s why there were so many deleted posts. The image just shows a picture of the z-rails, printables model 244558, and the two adaptor pieces.

I have created a new dust collector last week because my garage - incl. my motorbikes - are really (!) “powdered”, based on the last 2 months working with wood.

So based on my Makita router holder

and my Z-axis-stabilizer

I have added a dust collector.

To be honest, I haven’t tested it because it’s quite new. I will install it within the next days.
The “hole” for the dust tube I have created to be used with adapters, so you can easily add whatever adapter you want.
I will add an adapter for a Kärcher vacuum cleaner which has a 17,5 mm tube.

Don’t know, if that fits your requirements.

Exciting. I have yet to try different makita mounts and dust shoes but I would like to try yours!

Some additional infos for the dust collector above.

I have tested the dust collector in the last weeks, intensively!
You can see, that I have added a transparent protection. It is a part of a transparent table blanket (plastic). I like to use that so I can see better the driller “running” over/through the working object.

Here the result of the efficiency of the collector. This is the incurred dust based on a 5 hours (breakless) 3D-milling job (wood - european oak).
Works :joy: :joy: (99,99 % of the dust is in the vacuum system)

That’s really impressive. Wow.

What kind of vacuum is connected on the other end of that pipe?

Do you know what kind of air flow you have on pipe at the shoe entrance?

I’m installing my system and I don’t really know what I’m doing…

I use a “small” Kärcher (Industry Vacuum Cleaner - just 15 years old), so nothing really special.

My current “system architecture”

Professionality is around 20% :joy:
but efficiency - as mentioned - 99,99%. Negative: you can’t enter in the garage without any earmuffs (Mickey Mouse as we “call” them in Germany). The noice of the Makita plus vaccum system is tremendous.

The air flow you can check out regarding the collector

The vacuum flow is directly focussed on the center of the driller and you can hear really a whistling sound starting the vacuum system. There is such a high vaccum within the transparent protection, that I have added a metal clamp (see the fotos above) because otherwise the protection will be sucked.

Do you, by any chance, have anemometer? I’m curious what kind of flow you need to have such amazing results!

No I do not have any … and to be honest I do not care about the flow.

I decide on a binary base:

  • works :joy: or
  • is shit :rage:

… this is in the first category!

I need to mention, that before this dust collector I created a totally different system. That was an external system, not attached to the Z-axis. That system was part of the second category, so I directly reinstalled it.

hey, it’s me live from my shop! your binary system is not really binary: look what I just did:

it’s shit, and it works!!!
