Best CAD for WOODWORKING - 2025

wtf-what-the-fuck

I just saw an add for 50% off for makers with Solidworks. Usually $48 per year, which I think is great. But it’s $24 now through January 10. There’s a code on their site, I found it through the main site, menu - solutions - makers. Then there’s two packages to choose from.
EOYMAKER50 is the coupon code.
I’ll likely do it to try it out this year.

I haven’t used freecad for vbit stuff but here is a tutorial for doing it in freecad.

Seems pretty neat I am still only doing 2d stuff.

Where’s the third type? Or are you in the camp that don’t understand binary? :wink:

[Pedantic rant- 10, 01, 00 presumably 11 is also possible but not specified. so missing at least one type for that input]

Pedantic rant #10 -

00 = 0
01 = 1
10 = 2
11 = 3

The joke is that there are 2 types of people, therefore there are 10 types of people (not 0, 1 or 3 types of people).

But as the saying goes, if you have to explain a joke, it isn’t funny…

LOL - There’s two types of people. Those who understand how to work with partial information.

I have not looked recently but I think Fusion can’t do true V-carve toolpaths, where the Vbit goes up and down to fill the span between sketch contours, right? I believe it just does 2D engraving – true? And still no V bits in the tool database, just chamfer and engraving bits.

It’s been a while but I think what I did was a chamfer bit with the tip set to like 0.001", and it did seem to be a ā€œrealā€ vcarve, with various widths set by the bit height.

Yep, that looks like a proper V-carve. Lovely!

That is a great font for it as well!

It was a trace of a hand carved old sign, but thanks, it was perfect for a v-carve!
