Base Plate Material

Hi Everyone

Great project, my 3D printer is happily churning through filament and Aliexpress is sending me hardware and electronics.

I had a question about the base plate material. 6mm Aluminium CNC/Waterjet/Laser cut is a little difficult to source, whereas 6mm acrylic or delrin I can get and cut fairly easily.

Obviously these will be less rigid, but how much does that matter?

Hey John,

Where are you located? Are you able to source 1/4" aluminum? That will work just as fine.

I haven’t tested any other materials so I can’t attest to their compatibility, but the aluminum basePlate definitely is structural. I would say to try to go Aluminum if you can
