Apple CarPlay

I trust you guys so I want to ask here first. I have just went to Apple I phone to agree with the rest of the family and last January i bought a 2017 silverado, (all i can afford, and an awesome truck).

Now my iphone keeps disconnecting when using Carplay in it. I called the STEALERship I bought it from, they want 150 for troubleshooting whether they MAY be able to update my Mylink stereo that was abandoned in 2019.

Now, i see that most get it working with a wireless carplay adapter, to which, there are SOOO many chinese devices.

here is where i need help I want one I can trust to stay working. Most say gets hot, quit working 1 month after warranty, etc, etc.

Do any of you have a great one to recommend??? I had an almost 4 yer old droid that I NEVER had any trouble with!!! Help please!!!

I have a 2016 Sierra that only had plug in car play. I ordered a wireless one off amazon about 6 months ago and it has been working well so far. I will see if I can find a link to it and post.

I’ve used an AAWireless adapter for awhile with Android. They have a new version out now that also supports Carplay.

Went into my AliExpress purchase history, this is the one I bought in November 2024 and has worked every day since then with no problem.

I have one of these! It’s in the glove box now because my Sportage’s wireless charging can’t keep up for long drives and it kills my phone’s battery.

Wire is not working for me, and looks like a lot of others.

I know on my 2016 only one of the USB ports works for carplay. And its the one inside the center console. The ones up by the dash are charge only. Not sure if that’s the same for your newer truck or not

If it makes you feel better, my 2023 and 2025 cars both have intermittent problems with wireless android auto. IDK why they are so bad at implementing it.

The worst issue though is when I pull into the garage and my car connects to my wife’s phone and I am suddenly mid conversation with my mother in law. No offense to my MIL or my wife. But that is not what we thought the future would be like.

No I only have 2 inside console. And bot work, never had problems with the android at all. This looks like it is just CarPlay. Lots of scuttle about it.

Very weird. Mine has never been updated and has zero issues. But Its been MANY years since I have had an android, before I got this truck for sure lol. But I just started using the carplay again about a year ago because my nav is so out of date lol.

So the iPhone 17 forum is full of connection problems. They thought it was fixed in the latest update, but no. The assumption is that they changed CarPlay as others that were having problems and received an update to CarPlay on the car side.

That is why I was SO UPSET with the dealer telling me they would charge me a t.s. Fee just to see if there was a mylink update released

This so annoys me.

I bought a wireless AA adapter. Random disconnects, or sometimes just not connecting in the first place, and of course now I have this dumbooking dongle hanging from the dash… then I bought a different one. Night and day. Always connects and stays that way.

My sons both use the same wireless CarPlay adapter and have been happy with them. There were some settings they needed to change, but I haven’t witnessed problems when I ride with them. I’ll post the link when I can speak with our resident geek.

The dealers are in the hands of the manufacturers I guess, and the manufacturers all seem to think they can do better than the systems that operate give or take 100% of the mobile market.

None the less - I’d go back to a dealer who explained they get charged to do that but they pay once a month so they can answer the question to a CUSTOMER!!!

In the US, dealers are local companies. They buy cars from the manufacturer and then sell them at a higher price. But they are also tied to the dealers through finance and service departments. They generally don’t care much about hurting the brand, because “Ford by jeffeb3” already had enough clout because it says Ford. They are great at traditional “salesmanship”. So they are super polite to your face and are happy to fetch you a cup of coffee or doughnut. But they will not be honest with you about the price.

They are also legally protected and it is a whole thing. I hate dealing with them. They are usually 3-5x more expensive as a service center than any local mechanic.

In Aus, it’s a contravention of our consumer law to force a customer to use a particular business. As an example, as long as servicing has been completed by a competent person in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations warranty issues MUST be picked up by a dealer (or the manufacturer) - we also have a “fit for purpose” rule which often extends manufacturers’ warranties beyond the print! This has rendered those after-market “insurances” almost obsolete, but some still fall for them.

  • Automatic Guarantee: It’s an automatic right, not a bonus warranty; it applies regardless of any manufacturer’s warranty or store “no refunds” signs.
