Anyone try OpenBuilds CAM?

Looks like it might have a lot of the basics, Can’t seem to find if it has Vcarving or not.

As far as I can see, it only knows about regular, straight endmills

I don’t see any ability to define angles or shapes of an endmill.

These are the only milling operations I see available

Thanks, It was brought to my attention last night and it seems like it is a great option for basic stuff like text and simple shapes, instead of hitting CAD or a vector program. I honestly never knew this was an option and it kinda blew my mind.

Looks to me like the project kinda died.

updates have been minimal and sporadic over the last few years compared to the first 2 years or so

Shoot I need to poke at it some. It might be a really good option for simple custom things until Lightburn Millmage comes out.

If you spend your time learning it, MillMage will get released the day after

Is Millmage supposed to be really good, or just because people like lightburn?

The expectation is that it will have the usability of Lightburn, which is great, at the price point of Lightburn, which is also great. (The price point is unconfirmed…but I assume is what everyone expects…a fraction of the cost of competitors)

I haven’t seen it, but I would expect it to have a similar interface with all the design features etc that Lightburn has, but also the CAM features of what they consider their biggest competitor to be… I assume that to be Vectric maybe? Definitely will probably take some EstlCAM users.

Basically, I would expect that they will probably swing a large majority of the “Hobby CNC CAM” market their way

My biggest hope is ease of use, and basic CAD built in. Things like adding letters and basic shapes will be very easy without opening CAD, export, import, edit.

Supposed to integrate design and cam like lightburn did for the laser.

Yeah!
(I plan to buy MillMage on the day it releases.)
I am a happy LightBurn user- though slightly grumpy about the ending of native Linux support.

Millmage wont have V carve at initial release but will soon after they say. How long “soon” is, who knows lol

That’s like the area where they could have made big points. No software does inlays well…

“MillMage will also come in at a lower price than VCarve Pro (currently sold at $699 USD) - I do not have any specifics to share regarding this, but it will be ‘disruptive’ - just like LightBurn.”

there’s a good bit of “sneak peak” information in that thread…

Including outing a few V1 forum members who may or may not have Beta access and can be harassed for details lol
