Anyone tried kerf bending

I saw the below article on kerf bending the other day and wondering if anyone has tried his software or have done similar in another way? With additional structural support where required one can probably make some really interesting goodies with it.

I’m planning to start something next week, waiting for the tapered bit to arrive.

However I was using this tool to calculate Kerf Spacing Calculator Bending Wood - Inch

I was very interested in trying this and I attempted something that I thought would be simple. Basically a 75mm Arc in 18 mm plywood 610 mm long. For the metric challenged like myself… just to visualize that’s basically a 3" arc in 3/4" Ply with lines that would run down a near 24" length of ply…

15.3 mm Depth was obtained by Calculating 18mm x 85%

This is what I got.

It looks kind of weird to me because it’s 9 lengthwise cuts over 4.6" ???. If my outer radius is 3" I would think the cuts would fall under 3" ?

I can only assume this is setting up kerfs that would be placed on the OUTSIDE of my piece and I wanted them on the INSIDE.

As well the DXF that I downloaded would not open in Drawing View or Fusion…

Nice Idea… I appreciate someone making me think about this…

Total Length: 117.81 mm (4.6")

Number of Cuts: 9

Cut width: 2.7 mm, Cut depth: 15.3 mm

Algorithm used: Arc

Cut Distances

(from edge of board, cuts must be made on the mark)

Cut # Distance (mm) Side
1 0.0 A
2 14.7 A
3 29.5 A
4 44.2 A
5 58.9 A
6 73.6 A
7 88.4 A
8 103.1 A
9 117.8 A
