Anybody using the Musclechuck?

I just ordered a “Musclechuck” quick-change adapter for my Makita RT0701C - wondering if anyone else here is using it already and how you like it?

Hey Marty, we are mostly using the collet from Elaire Corp that Ryan also sells.

I’m not seeing anything in the V1 store that looks similar. What am I missing?

I think I might have misunderstood the Musclechuks’s usage, but I meant this: Makita 1/8" collet – V1 Engineering Inc

Ok, gotcha.

The Musclechuck is a quick-change chuck that lets you replace a bit by just loosening a single allen screw. No need for the double wrenches anymore.

Hmm, I am not sure I’d trust a single screw. The wrenches work fine for me. You also seem to lose quite a bit of work height.

I was just coming to ask the same question.

I’m not sure I trust that single screw but not having to take the router out of the mount to change bits would be helpful.

You do not need to take the router out to change bits, then you are doing sth. wrong.

With my hands, it’s MUCH easier to remove the router than try to get my hands in there (three hands since one also needs to hold the bit) and there is less chance of moving the gantry while cranking a wrench (ask me how I know you can move it even with the motors engaged).

You use one hand to hold the bit, gently fasten the nut, then you grab two wrenches and tighten it.

Time for an automatic tool change setup! Lol

That’s the plan. Eventually.

Got my Musclechuck today and installed it on my Makita router / LR3.

Pretty sure I’m going to like it - bit changes are a breeze and I was actually able to gain about 3/8” working capacity - I moved the router up since I no longer need access to the main spindle or chuck nut.

Here’s a quick demo of changing the bit. Note how far the router is moved up in the clamps.

That is interesting. Definitely seems to offer a nice experience. I hadn’t heard of it. Thanks for sharing.

That may help router cooling too.

Looks pretty good. Seems like a reasonable alternative to a 1/8" collet.

Which ‘type’ did you get for the RT0700 series? I couldn’t find it listed on the compatibility lists anywhere.

It’s the one in the link I posted originally - the 1/4” version. There’s also a 1/8 collet adapter available but it’s not on the website yet - if you need one, use the contact link to send an email and ask about it.

I was wondering the same thing, some sites say it’s the type 9, but musclechuck.com doesn’t list the RT0700 at all.

Ah, right. Yeah, I see it now on the front page.

That’s unfortunate, I’d have preferred a native 1/8" one or a swappable collet like their others. The more that I look at it, the more I think the 1/4" one could be a nice addition to my ‘normal’ router.
