You could choose to use it in a more traditional form by driving the X axis to Y max and using the tools by hand. Maybe having it give you a blank slate or a pattern first.
The steppers are kind of an odd choice but that won’t be the only unorthodox thing.
Going to experiment a bit with these motors. This weird setup with this tiny stepper having bearing wheels is funny. Just looking to mess around in unconventional things and see how it goes. I think a normal person would use linear rails but that’s boring. Eventually, each axis will end up in some kind of hardwood beam. The X beam will mount right to the Y steppers. I want this thing to eventually look elegant on the outside, but weird on the inside.
Ha, I’m not sure there is a point. I’m experimenting. I will say that since this is intended to be on a desk and is already quite small, I need it to take up as little space as possible.
I was thinking about a turntable type design as soon as I saw that device. I recently saw something here that had me start thinking, but didn’t know what to do with it:
Put that stepper screw on the turntable and you can make a pretty efficient round zen garden.
