After some years having fun with the Lowrider v2, hearing so much good stories about the V4, I thought it would be time to upgrade!
Last month the international V4 Hardware kit arrived and after printing all the parts I started building. Which was a blast, well done @vicious1! How the parts fit, how the nuts and bolts matches the printed parts and how the wiring goes through the parts, fantastic!
So the build is going well. I’m currently at the stage where the beam is completed and the jackpot v1 is wired. The only thing where I am struggling at is that the Z-axis will not fall down when I disconnect the power. So I guess there must be something binding. Searching the forum I read a lot of suggesting about 2 things, lube and grub screws.
So I lubed the leadscrew and nut, did not make a difference. Also, instead of checking the grub screw if it was tight, I unscrewed the grub screw to check if the binding was over there. Even with the grub screw lose, the beam would not fall down on its own.
With the power on, the z-axis moves fine on it is own. Testing without the router, don’t know if that makes the differences.
The z axis should only fall with a fully loaded beam, tool and hose usually. That is usually only the side with the tool as well. That is why a parking gcode is a good idea.
Yesterday and today I have been busy installing en setting up the LR4. I did the belt Calibration, squaring and Z-leveling.
I had some problems with the Z-axis on the min-side. I checked the grub-screws, which were fine, and put some more grease on the leadscrews. That helped a lot but in a few occasions the z-motor still can’t get the x-beam up on the min-side. If I help the motor a bit it continuous up.
Another thing I noticed is when the Z motors are spinning the leadscrews are not perfectly vertical. The dance little circles when lookup from above. Is that normal?
The motor shaft has a flat spot where it connect with the coupler, but the leadscrews has not. So how to get them perfectly straight, or am I overthinking it?
No, not normal. Take out the Z stub screws and center the leadscrews. Do not put the stub screws back in. Make sure to lube your screws. We have a couple weight lifting videos of lowriders so you have a heck of a jam.
What I had though was a slightly rotated stub. Loosen the two screws connecting the stub to the aluminium plates and try to rotate it minimally to the front or back and see whether that helps.
