Aliexpress

i have never really ordered from there. (In fact one item i ordered was flagged at usps as suspected postage scam), but My main question is, has anyone ordered since the tariff’s?

Were there any unexpected costs that incurred? Also do you tend to order from the us location only?

This is just a general question, as I am still seeing youtubers linking to it, but somehow I expect it cannot be cheap.

It still works, some include the taxes, some don’t. So just figure another 50% on anything you buy.

My only experience with AliExpress was not great.

I ordered a replacement nozzle for my air/mist system. Part cost was only a couple of bucks, shipping was around $3, so total cost of around $6 (CDN).

Tracking information didn’t show any movement at all for the first couple of weeks, then it showed “departed destination country” for a few more weeks, then showed “arrived in destination country” for another couple of weeks.

It never did arrive. On the plus side, AliExpress was very quick to refund my money as soon as the waiting period was finished. On the minus side, I still don’t have a nozzle for my air/mist system.

I’ve bought a few things . Some were ok. Some never arrived and were refunded.

One I had to dispute with my card, it never arrived , they claimed they shipped it but said they shipped it like 3 different times. then eventually a box of used items pulled from old electronics showed up (VCOXO 10Mhz oscillators). The seller claimed they had been listed as used.

I had saved a copy of the listing which clearly described them as brand new. That was enough for my card, which then did a chargeback.

I haven’t bought anything from Aliexpress since then, mostly due to the tariff insanity- but would consider it. I’d save copies of the listing, though.

So you are not getting hit by tariffs like we are. That is my main fear right now. by a 2$ part and pay 10 in tariffs

I ordered about $50 worth of stuff a couple months ago.

Everything arrived. No additional charges.

Happy holidays everyone!

I’ve bought a lot from AliExpress. Nothing this year though.

Everything in the past was always very inexpensive. Usually cheap. Mostly electronics. Things like LED strips are way cheaper and are exactly what I could buy on amazon. Microcontrollers and cheap IoT things are all a good value.

Out of the dozens of orders, a few have been MIA. They were refunded. I have saved enough to definitely pay for the risk of my next order.

My only complaint is that it takes a really long time. Because of that, I order early and I order larger quantities.

Shipping used to also be free, because of some partnership with the USPS. They would ship anything that fits in a small envelope for very cheap. I think that loophole has been closed, which makes it less of a good deal.

There are a lot of “businesses” that order junk from AliExpress and then sell the stuff on Amazon or ebay.

One of my favorite youtube series is when Great Scott does a DIY vs Buy and the Buy is almost always an AliExpress purchase. He also frequently does a video on “X good purchases on AliExpress”.

Nope. The only new tariffs that we’re getting hit with in Canada is stuff from the USA, and that is nowhere near as volatile as what I hear reports of. At least the rate isn’t likely ti have made huge shifts upwards between ordering and the item hitting customs.

Since some of.my favourite places to import from are in the USA though, I’ve been abstaining from ordering.

Ali Express has been pretty consistent for me. The tracking is often crap, but I’ve only lost a small percentage of items. Some of the items themselves are crap, of course, but that’s no big surprise. I’ve ordered a bunch of 3D printer parts, plenty of V1 machine parts, too, including a captured linear rail that was supposed to go on an LR3, now might be adapted to an LR4 instead.

Also ordered some knock-off anime figures, some cheap tools, pet supplies, and a few car accessories without unexpected issues.

don’t get political, don’t get political…

Alright, I’m going to go have an edible and try to enjoy what’s left of the weekend… :herb:
