Advice on buying am Mpcnc

I am a complete newbie having never used or owned a CNC machine, but I really dig the look and PRICE of the Mpcnc.

I want to build guitars using a CNC, I should be able to do that with the Mpcnc right?

Do I need something that can handle a more robust router/spindle?

I’ve been learning Fusion 360 so I can program a CNC when I finally buy one, if my assumptions are right it it is the software that really determines what you can carve right?

Also it looks like you can easily convert the Mpcnc to be a 3D printer or laser, is that right?

thanks for anyone’s responses!

You’re definitely in the right place Steve. There are several MPCNCers here making guitars. I haven’t, but I do believe I recall seeing something here at one time that said it’s likely best to learn 2.5D carving and ESTLCam for guitar projects which will get you your shape and recesses (for pickups, wiring, pots etc) and then you use the old fashioned artistry of hand contouring to round things out and make it sexy.

The MPCNC will do both - but contour carving is a very lengthy process compared to 2.5D milling. Do it - you will not regret it. V1 machines are one of the best things that have found their way into my world.

Thanks for the response Kelly!

I’m really leaning to the Mpcnc, I just dig the ingenuity of Ryan and the community seems awesome. Also the machine just looks so cool!

Also, no need to go down the rat hole of trying to find a better router, the DW660 will do anything you need.
