Advice how to import the kit to Europe/Netherlands

Hi folks,

I’m very interested into the LowRiderv2 and so my first idea was to buy the kit from Ryan, because the easy of it and that he already selected and tested all the individual components.

But then I found out that we have to pay import taxes, when we import stuff from America to the Netherlands, which is around €130,-. (30% of the total order value).

So my second attemp was to source all the stuff locally. I tried amazon .de, but it was very hard to use the right search terms and after that select the right stuff. I still have to select a lot of items which I haven’t found yet. And still it is a guess that it is de right stuff with the right quality.

So I still prefer to buy a kit from Ryan and I was wondering how you guys have imported the stuff to Europe / Netherlands. Did you buy the kit or did you find a easier way to select all the items?

Thanks for sharing the info and I’m looking forward to get building soon!

Hi Pieter,

Here is a fellow mpcnc user from the low lands… What are you searching for? Import taxes and shipping are killing the joy of ordering abroad.

I gathered all parts for my lowrider from various sources, i did the 3-d printing myself. Now I have to start building…

There are some authorized resellers in de. They are listed on the license page. I don’t know anything about the EU laws, or what those sellers offer.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a great way, but I think paying the import taxes and shipping isn’t what anyone wants. If I were in the EU and I wanted to do this project, I would wish I could order from Ryan, but I would probably self source, and add some money to Ryan via paypal (which is a very efficient way to support the design).

Thanks for the responses.

the authorized resellers only sell mpcnc and not the lowrider parts. So I continue the search for parts for myself. At the moment I have mostly all parts selected but need some help with some items:

  1. the “wiring kit 1.5M, 22AWG”. Does anyone has some more information on what to search for on example amazon.de?

  2. also the “Wheel spacer” part is not totally clear to me. Anyone has some search terms I could use to select the right spacers?

  3. for the board I have found the following Rambo 1.4 on AliExpress:
    https://nl.aliexpress.com/item/32948231380.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.31b47a47hHRU1Y&algo_pvid=dee50074-9b36-4b2a-af3b-122c18636482&algo_expid=dee50074-9b36-4b2a-af3b-122c18636482-3&btsid=0b0a0ae215988627942847693e10d9&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_

  4. last question, I have found the following endstops, but the look different then from the pictures on here. Do these work?
    https://www.amazon.de/Packungen-Mechanische-Endstück-Makerbot-Arduino/dp/B075STR78D/ref=sr_1_6?__mk_nl_NL=ÅMÅŽÕÑ&dchild=1&keywords=Endstop+switch%2C+Mechanical&qid=1598895873&s=computers&sr=1-6

so much thank ahead!

Wheel spacers sometimes come with the wheels kit… I bought the 64mm from AliExpress…

For the board and screen I went for the SKR Pro 1.2 and a TFT 35…I bought this through internet on 3D printers shop to avoid the excessive import taxes either from USA or China…but whatever you order make sure it will work with V1’s precompiled firmware…so go for the components Ryan sells…unless you’re a technology nutter

Endstops I bought these micro very cheap and they work perfectly… CESFONJER 12 PCS Micro-Roller Palanca Brazo Abierto Cierre Limite Interruptor 125V – 250V 5A PCB Microinterruptor https://www.amazon.es/dp/B07SPW6M61/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Z9QtFb58EFHF7

Hope it helps you!!!

Thx @AlexBondCat,

your wheels look good, I will select these wheels also.

I read that the SKR board is still beta for the lowrider, that’s why I went for the Rambo. The Rambo boards are hard to find in Europe, I only found a few on aliexpress for a decent price. You are right the import taxes are high, let’s hope this one will slip through.

Also thanks for the endstop suggestion. With some keywords from your ad I found some endshops on amazon that can be send to the Netherlands.

How did you guys do the wiring kit? https://shop.v1engineering.com/collections/lowrider-parts/products/wiring-kit-1?variant=4624340811803
With my endstops comes some wires, I guess I only need some wires for the Nema motors, is that right? And any suggestions for some search terms and lenght I can use to find them?

Instead of a wiringkit I used cat5e cable, a soldering iron and some heatshrink (plus heatgun, but a lighter will do also) Used the cables supplied by the stepper motors, cut them and placed a piece of cat5 cable in between (used a color pair per stepper motor wire)

Regarding the extensions for your Motors you can just extend them as suggested or buy an extension kit male-female that suits your needed length…something like this…or order some from V1’s page… ▷Cable Dupont 4P Macho-Hembra - 70cm - HTA3D ✅

For endstop wiring anything not too thick should do the job…guys correct me if I’m wrong !!! But if you’re going for dual endstop configuration make sure you follow V1’s guide page as they need to be wired as closed position…this is important.

I’ve just finished mine I suggest you to read my build thread and you’ll find recent troubles and solutions :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::+1:

Hello everyone !

I’m buying from France, trying to find the exact same stepper motor that is sold in this website… The NEMA 17 that are in the bundle are 4.2 V rated voltage, and I can only find stepper motors with a rated voltage of 12-24 V shipping to Europe.

Does it matter ?

Hi Joachim,

don’t know if this helps but I have ordered these and the are working fine:

Thank you !
Will Archim 2.0 work for the lowrider2 ? And can we put optical endstop instead of mechanical ones ? Do you recommend it ? Does not seem very reliable but i’m still curious…

P.S. we are making a tutorial on how to build a lowrider2 for beginners. It’s in french but we can translate it later. We are making a shopping list with all the links. Of course we will not forget to tip V1 for the design.

The hardware on the archim 2 is great. The software just keeps getting broken. At least in Marlin.
