One of my many uses for the LR4 is to cut Adirondack parts for the chairs and benches I sale. I use 1.5” and 3/4” pine boards. The LR4 has no issues cutting 1.5”. To minimize waste, I used Deepnest.io to nest the parts together. My old way of doing this was to rough cut the part, then trace the template and cut using the bandsaw, double-side tape the template to the board and use a router to flush it up. Using the LR4 with nesting allows me to minimize waste and do other things while it is cutting the parts. Instead of a mix of 2x4, 2x6, and 2x8s, I can use one 2x12. I used screws at each end of the board to secure it.
How cool! Thanks for sharing your cutting settings. I was pleased how it was actually easier to cut quatersawn oak than (very crappy) plywood on my lr4.
I intend to make router templates out of mdf or hardboard for anything thicker than an inch or so… but just cutting the wood like you’re doing sounds ideal! 3 inch bit… awesome.
How long do you expect that bit to last? Also, what router/speed setting is that, or are you running a spindle?
The router is set at the lowest setting, 16,000 RPM. If I could go lower, I would, but I am making chips and not dust. So far, the bit has held up really well. I’ve cut a lot of 1.5” pieces of wood with it. I used it with my trays to cut then out.

These are on my list of things to attempt. Not really to sell, but we have a community firepit that I think could benefit from a few sets. Probably not worth the time or money I would have to put into making them, but that would describe most of my projects.
I bought the plans and templates from Rockler. I then took the time to re-create them digitally. I don’t sell a lot of these because they aren’t cheap. But then again, you get what you pay for. It’s just most people don’t want to pay what something is worth.
How much do you take for one? I am considering getting some locust wood, it’s super resistant and I have a friend whose father basically only trades and resaws it. So I’d have a good supplier and could make a chair or two.
Very timely. I’m just about to start the first parts of my own ADC, maybe even today. I’m using redwood, so I’m taking it slowly because of the wood cost. But, after your earlier post I got the same bit and will be using it. (My previous selection was 4” long and it’s just a tad too long for the LR4 to have any margin.)
Hopefully within a few days, I’ll have my first one.
You gotta digitize them yourself though as well.
