Adding Z end stop

Hey guys, trying to add an end stop to my Z axis but its proving to be harder than expected. I want to use either the Z min or Z max port and a micro switch for homing purposes. Switch and wire are ran but it seems like I have a firmware issue.

The first time I tested the function it stopped the Z axis appropriately but then ever since it seems like the Z travel when homing has been inverted (heading down into the table). Now it wants to travel down when homing? I think I’m hung up with Z probe settings. As always I appreciate the help guys!

Depends on what firmware you have and which way you wire the switch (NO, or NC).

I’m running the Rambo 1.4 dual end stop and the switch is currently wired NC like the rest of the switches.

Nope, Normally open, z probes start open.

If you want different change the Z logic in the firmware.

I changed the firmware logic already, when I went down that road the test Crown plunged up instead of down into the bed. When I return the firmware to its original state the Z home doesn’t seem to be working correctly.

The Z axis no longer homes to its startup location like before. The only way I can get the Z end stop to work is to invert the motor polarity, however this makes the z axis plunge into the air when attempting the Crown. Almost like something is backwards since I tried to make the end stop work.

I am unclear to what you changed or what is happening.

I suggest using my stock firmware switching the one wire on your switch and using it NO. It works that way, we all use it that way.

I’m able to get the touch plate concept to work NO however I’m not familiar with work flow. How does that work if you’re not cutting conductive material? I was planning to offset the tool paths from its max height. Any suggestions or pointers?

Have a look at the “milling basics” page for some more details.
