Absolute Newbie perplexed and looking for sound advice

it is silly how strong the design is. Because of the angle, all the weight is shifted from the conduit to the 2x4.

You can always build an mpcnc that fits under that bench.

You could also just buy a $50 lumber rack and have it on the wall within the hour. Doesn’t really seem worth the time of building one

Nice, thanks for sharing. Been wanting to organize stuff better, for years, many years… Dug around, and leaning towards buying rack for my situation. Some details/thoughts incase others are in similar situation…

The Rockler lumber racks, or something similar( https://www.amazon.com/s?k=lumber+rack ) seem like a great fast way to solve storing heavy stuff at factory determined spacing (or some multiple of, e.g. Rockler reasonably spaced mount holes for 6" space between shelves). $40-$50 price seems reasonable given material cost of making custom rack, that’s before you even consider labor time/cost…

IF you wanted to do custom build for reason(s) (e.g. you like the look and/or want alternative spacing, and/or have the EMT and 2x4’s already), then, drill pressing the 10deg - 15deg 1" holes seems like the right tool for this design? Drill 2-5/8" deep holes into 2"x4" https://youtu.be/V6xrkN5REko?si=WDofQZWRThtUVze7&t=342

IF you wanted to spend the labor time CNC’n for fun and/or don’t have a drill press (LR3 overhang front of bench, attach jig to hold 2x4 at ~10deg slant). Then, guess a long bit would be needed? e.g. $25 1/4" dia/shank, 2" cutting, 4" long, 2 flute carbide upcut like https://www.amazon.com/SpeTool-Spiral-Cutting-Diameter-Carving/dp/B09M6T9221. Slower than usual cuts, but possible to do such deep cuts, with stock positioned for CNC pocketing hole near LR3’s X min or X max? Already sounding like a PITA, drill press seems like the right tool as much as I like LR3.

~$12 3/4" x 10’ EMT (would need 2 to build same shelves as Rockler’s 4-Tier or 6-Tier).

~$3 2" x 4" x 8’

For people with CNCs, is this the best design for making a lumber/heavy-things rack, or would french cleat, or some other more CNC’ble design (without requiring drop table capability) be a better solution?

I thought so too when I found lumber racks on Amazon.com for under $50!!!
