I often switch between using a 52mm spindle and the DW660 depending on what I am cutting and how much noise I want to make. I have used a number of different spindle mounts, but I dislike having change out all the mounting hardware. I wanted to enable my own laziness, so I designed an easy to print adapter so that you can securely hold the spindle using Ryan’s excellent DW660 mounts (should work with original or burly, but I haven’t tested with the burly yet). The adapter requires printing three small pieces. A single piece fits into the lower DW mount and attaches to the spindle using four m4 screws. The two other pieces act as a split bushing to firmly grip the spindle in the upper mount.

The spindle collet will be exactly the same distance from the gantry and at roughly the same height as the DW660 so any accessories (dust shoes, probes, etc) should work exactly as before.

Also, a shout out to nellson’s magentic dust shoe design (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2797108). Part of the motivation for this adapter was to keep using this dust shoe. I also have uploaded a revision to this dust shoe with a slightly increased clearance (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3371849). This clearance sacrifices a little vacuum effectiveness in order to use of the entire endmill length with the DW660, but is necessary for changing out bits with the spindle.
