I’m thinking of taking what I learned from building the MPCNC and the low rider to build a 4 axis hot wire cutter. There are plenty of versions out there I could follow too.
However I don’t have multiple threaded rod for the z axis. Is it a terrible idea to use belts for the Z?

This guy uses belts.
CNC foam cutter.
I’m guessing that the loads are so light, that belts will be fine.

Nice find. Thanks. Yeah, loads would be light. Worth giving it a try anyway.

Michael Rechtin just shared neat video demo, BOM and design files for his 4 axis hot wire foam cutter (adjustable size, and packable/portable design).
Sharing here since we have a bunch of Makers that build RC plane/drone, surf boards and other stuff…
A belt based remix would be neat, and maybe cheaper?
I shut it down when the video turned into a stealth marketing video for that Wayzer.
