Thanks Doug! Also, I wanted to say that randomly finding your YouTube channel one day started me down this road. Thanks!
Cool! Welcome!
I cannot say enough good about the speed and performance of the Flashforge AD5M printer. It’s CoreXY, very fast, comes fully assembled, and has a great “out of the box” experience to get started.
If you want to print using their slicer, which is a re-skinned version of (I think) Orca Slicer, then you’re off to the races. If you want more control and options, one of the most helpful things to do is, if you’re used to some other slicer, switch to Orca Slicer, and download a print project file from FlashForge that’s made to be opened in Orca Slicer and printed from there. A good choice on that is their DIY enclosure set file.
Also, just FYI, I checked just now, and while the LowRider v4 core can be rotated to fit and print on a 180x180 print bed (would fit on Bambu Lab mini), the YZ plates cannot fit on a Bambu Lab mini. The minimum print bed size for V1E stuff is 200x200. Everything V1E prints great on a Flashforge AD5M.
If i was looking to buy solely to print the cnc, i would be money ahead just buying the printed parts.
Well, that’s true, but at only about 2x as much, you’d have a great printer too. The LR3 printed parts set was something like $172 with metal plates, and an AD5M is only $295 (with free shipping), so, assuming $35 or so for some filament, and $23 or $25 or so for metal XZ plates, you are at about $355. Just over double the price, and end up having a great printer afterwards.
Lol, that’s pretty cheap filament, given that you need about 3 kg to print the LR4
Maybe it’s cheaper in the US, but it’s around $25 USD in Canada for basic PLA
Edit - I take it back, there is some Amazon brand PLA for about $14 USD per kg, so maybe $35 isn’ t that far off. I was buying Hatchbox, which is quite a bit pricier, but the quality seemed worth it at the time.
Check out Elegoo. Most of my beta machines were printed with that and I pushed them HARD. Never once had a part problem. I did print the latest one with the Fancy stuff on the important part and hatch box for the PLA stuff, but that was because the person getting it after beta is done picked that specific color, and he will be flipping the bill in the end
I by PLA for about $10 per kilogram and I have about $35 in both some TPU (for the bristles) and the rolls of PLA. I did not say it would be carbon fiber stuff at that price!
Is there a brand recommendation for PLA, that from experience people find works better for Lowrider? Or pretty much all the same. There is a bulk Sunlu package of 4 on Amazon for $44.
I’m a budget printer and use elagoo, bumat, and whatever else I can get for sub $15 per kg. Color usually dictates price. I had great success with the fancy Amazon Basics brand, but at $22 per kg. I could get an extra roll every other one purchased if I bought the less expensive stuff. The cheap red filaments are often candy apple red, which is slightly orange. I bought a 2 roll drier and that has made a huge difference in being able to get good prints from cheap filaments.
Oh yeah, drying is crucial no matter what brand you get. Even out of the vacuum sealed package my dryer would peg them at 35-40% humidity. I built one of these dry boxes to store them after drying, and it has been working great.
I guess I can’t add links yet. Go to printables and search for “14088-minimalist-samla-22l-and-65l-filament-storage”
Details?
I second this stuff. I buy a lot of it as well and it prints quite well. Certainly for the cost!
you can get it on amazon right now 4 spools for $40
side note:
doing a mpcnc to lowrider 4 conversion ordered the plates from ryan but has anyone found any decent mgn rails on amazon?
for the specific length you are much better getting them from Ryan. You will spend more anywhere else. Plus its a lot better to support the guy that did all the work to design it than Amazon
Good catch! Ive been waiting for it to drop as it does every now and then.
100% agree and I bought my orginal mpcnc kit from him and the metal plates and belts for the new v4 but the linear rails are out of stock and with all the orders I’m sure he got who knows when they will come back by themselves
They are probably not out of stock. Ryan is trying to get everything situated and switched around in the store. Probably best to send him an email with your order number and ask if he can add you a set of rails to it. He will know for sure if he has any or not. I know he does, but they may all be dedicated to full kits. I’m really not sure.
Crying in Prusament prices…
but, but, my dryer is no that big!!!
