Looks like the RAMPS stack on my home-made Prusa I3 clone has finally given up the ghost. Looking for recommendations for a replacement. What are folks using these days?
Currently the printer has a 12v supply and a Titan Aero extruder. I wouldn’t mind replacing that as well, maybe with something with an easier to swap nozzle, but I recognize that doing a lot of parts swapping can quickly get into the realm where a replacement machine might make more sense.
I’m used to Marlin, and have another printer that runs it, but I’m not afraid to try something new.
I think replacing a control board gets you 1/3 the price of a new machine, if you don’t count your time.
It is pretty nuts if you look around you can get a good machine for real cheap. Someone just mentioned getting a new printer for $99. I got an absolute monster prebuilt delivered to my door on sale for $650.
I hate that it has come to this but if you are trying to swap a board and extruder a new printer is probably cheaper, and faster. It was very frustrating to me last time to see some companies wanted $180 for a hot end when I built my last printer. Yet you can get a full machine for the same price, pre built.
