25 OD on Z axis with 25.4 printed

Hi there,

I have 25.4 OD tube, and 25.4 printed part. But I would like to have the working area a bit bigger than I planned. Meaning that I don’t have enough 25.4 tube. The only tube I can get my hand on currently are 25mm. I plan to use 25 for leg, and for Z axis.

Should I reconsider?

Thanks a lot for your advise.

Thanks

The core either has 25 or 25.4mm, since X, Y and Z meet there you need to choose one size, mixing does not really work.

Thanks for you answer. I was hoping that could work thanks to the driving screw, and the limited motion.

IDK, you may be able to get it to work…

The legs I’d print again since they are not that big. Otherwise you could try using 0.2mm brass shim to fit the legs with 25.

I suspect you could get the z bearings to tighten down on the smaller tubing without much hassle. If they don’t tighten up well to start, adding shims (credit card or brass) between the core “ramp part” and the z bearing clamps will help. I’d personally give that a shot, or maybe even try modifying the bearing wedges, before reprinting everything and ditching the 1".

side note… not sure where you live, but if you’re local (central California) I could give you the 1" you need to finish (I have some 4’ long sticks leftover).

Wow! Thanks a lot for your generosity! I sadly left California 4 years ago.
I’ll give it a try, and I’ll continue to search for 25.4 tube.

Thanks again!

I’m on mobile and away, so my resources to check things out is limited, but i belive you can mix at the core. I believe the core itself is the same between both versions, and the parts that bolt to the core decide the tubing size.

No, the cores are also different. We had a Problem with the 25mm core because of hole placement at the beginning, I remember because I still work with that core.

Thanks all for your replies. I will try to source one more 25.4mm tube. Anyway I have to postpone the build by 2 weeks for other reasons, hopefully I’ll have a bit of luck.

Thanks again!
