21st Momento

Hi Folks.

Made this 21st memento for my daughter with my LR4.
The wood used is called Kiaat. Very nice wood to work with. Hard and durable.

I use a combination of Autodesk Fusion to design the basics, AI to create some of the detail along with Vcarve Pro for the florals and to create vectors and tool paths. I use an App called Fluid Control on my android tablet. The tablet is connected to the LR4 via a standalone WiFi network in my workshop which is created using an old rooter we no longer use for internet connectivity.

This was my first project where I did engraving on 3mm Acrylic mirror using a 120 degree diamond tip drag bit. Engraving was done on the back after mirroring the font. I was astonished how crisp and precise the text came out.

Space was made on either side of the mirror to include LED strips inside the frame itself to provide side lighting of the engraved font. These side lights come on when opening the doors using a micro switch which you can see at the bottom of the mirror.

Further LED strips were embedded in slots on the rear of the piece to provide some backlighting. Slots and cavities were machined into the frame to house the electrical components and wiring. Whole system runs on 4 green AA LiPo batteries. There is a master button on the rear at the bottom which enables/disables all LED’s.

A little paint was used to add contrast to details and to create the whitewashed look. This was all topped with matt clear sealer. Metal corner pieces, miniature lock and latch bought from Temu.

What an awesome machine this LR4 is!

Wow! That turned out amazing. Nice detail in the doors. I’m sure she will cherish this forever.

Oh that is beautiful, thank you so much for sharing.

That diamond drab bit worked great!!
