Woodworking finish order of operations question

Yes you can. I used it on the wife’s art table.

I’m sure this is well known but just documenting my progress for future me to reference.

I’m finding that feed rate has a great impact on the fuzzies. When you read all the info that says feed rate is important I guess they mean it. So faster is not always better.

Ok so the grand reveal. (the would probably look better hanging on a wall but the wife hasn’t decided which wall yet.)

I tried to grab some photos of the steps along the way.
Thanks to many of you for the advice from above, I ended up doing the following.

  1. Prime / Paint / Shellac
  2. Apply adhesive craft paper
  3. Carve
  4. Pour epoxy and squeegee
  5. Let it cure for 24 hours
  6. Remove the adhesive film.
  7. Let cure for 24 more hours the attach frame.

Insert a lot of frustration and testing between many of those steps, and I learned alot about what not to do next time.
Overall I’d give it a B-, but she liked it so we’re happy.

Looks really good

Looking wonderful :star_struck:

Hi, can you provide a link to where or what this paper is please when you get a chance.

Sure thing, got it off Amazon, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078T4PQMV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, Oramask was what @timonjkl recommended, I went with the 50 foot roll, glad I did - I can definitely see using this method again. Should be much easier for paint on paint, vs epoxy on paint.

Very nice work and thanks for sharing. I’d like a basic question if I may, what epoxy do you use and how do you tint it black?

Makes unlocking your phone a pain though.

Hi @davem - for this particular project - since I was tying to finish it quickly I had to resort to what Amazon could get me through prime versus what I might have normally ordered.

This is what I used: https://www.amzn.com/B0843H84K5
To tint it black: https://www.amzn.com/B08F56Y13K about 10 drops for the amount I was mixing up.

This is probably what I would have ordered if I had time to wait for shipping https://www.amzn.com/B07PXGFGCS

Funny how woodworkers are the first to point out the imperfections when no one else notices/cares

They can’t, that’s why it always flakes off into your food XP
