I bet you could run it right where it is! ![]()
Yes but i mostly use it for mirrors so, i wont. The wall have an engrave on it. It was made with the diode
Up here at our Canadian Tire stores they have a “house brand” called Mastercraft. There’s a top tier of this brand they call Mastercraft Maximum and most if not all of these tools are guaranteed for life. They have all sorts of tools in the maximum lineup from power tools to hand tools and yes - drill bits. I literally take back bits from my big set as they go dull and ask them to replace them for me. It’s a hassle for both parties for sure but hey - if you’re gonna call it a lifetime guarantee I guess I’ll take you up on that.
I’ve got loads of tools around here like most everyone else and all of them are in storage because I know I’ll need them eventually. The one I do have, have yet to use but will keep around is a cheapo wire feed MIG welder that my dad had bought and never used and so when we moved him off the acreage I held onto it. I know I’ll be good at being a bad welder so I’m holding off on breaking the seal on that skillset.
Here’s the thing though…NONE of my tools collect dust. Anymore.
Since making the switch to full time ice carving which involved bringing a whole pile of refrigeration type units into my shop space I’ve been nearly surgical when it comes to keeping dust out of my shop. I needed to use my table saw this week so each morning I rolled it out of the garage, closed the garage door and did my work outside, blowing everything off before the door was opened back up.
[ As an aside, I’m building these crazy cool flip open tool boxes I stumbled across one night on YouTube. They’ll be used when I’m on site to keep my die grinders and angle grinders (and maybe all my chisels and hand tools) organized but in a very accessible package. The power tool cases will have flip down “hangers” in the top sections to hold tools that are in use and the ones in the lower section should be heavy enough to keep the box when in “cabinet mode” stable on whatever it’s sitting on. ]

Jamie Hyneman from Mythbusters had a great thing to say about welding. He said. “It comes with a manual”. And “It’s a lot like a hot glue gun for metal”. If you take away all of the hype and art, you can make pieces of metal become bigger pieces of metal without much trouble.
I don’t enjoy metal work (the dust and shavings just bother me). But I would like to get some experience with it. If you have a chance and the equipment, get some dummy projects done on it so you at least know what you’re up against.
It’s very neat to have something like that from your dad.
Her stuff is great yup. That’s the one that got my attention and ultimately the template I used was hers but that hinge mechanism has been around and "figured out’ for a long time so I’m a bit disappointed in her that she didn’t dig deeper before claiming she figured it out on her own. Not that she directly made the claim mind you but it’s sorta inferred the way they documented it.
I guess that’s not fair. They truly did “reverse engineer it on their own”. But they certainly didn’t have to start from scratch. It took hardly zero effort for me to stumble also on this Mathias Wendel video (also a great YouTube channel).

I think I’m only sensitive to that kind of stuff because I spent my entire design career mindful of copyright in a world where “it’s all been done” yet have seen many further their own successes (in design and sculpture/art) in direct conflict with copyright. I think part of that is what I find so refreshing about the open source community actually. That the rules of copyright aren’t so heavy and that there is a general mutual respect to the originators amongst most makers.
I have been looking for a reason other than just because t o buy a welder for 20 years and finally found one then my BIL said I can do that for you ![]()
