Upgrade from ramps to jackpot3

I want to upgrade to Jackpot3 from Ramps on an earlier build of MPCNC.

This will enable me to run Millmage.

Would I need to run 24v instead of 12v?

What issues might I have?

Any other sugestions.

Thanks

Norm

Welcome to the V1 forums.

I have upgraded my MPCNC to a JP3. It works great with both Lightburn and Millmage. You can also upgrade to add endstops if you haven’t already.

Once you get the JP3 you’ll need to upload the config files for the MPCNC from here:

If you have any more questions don’t hesitate to ask.

What changes have to be made to the connections?

What about the voltage?

I had the X and Y axis connected to one stepper driver each. When I upgraded I separated them so each axis was connected to it’s own driver. I also added the endstops to X and Y. You will need 4 extension cables and 4 endstops for that. I upgraded my powersupply to the 24v too.

I have the 3 wire endstops on my machine. Will these work on the jackpot3? If so what is the correct hookup on the board?

I am not sure. The standard endstop has 2 wires and they are wired as Normally Closed (NC). Can you use yours with only 2 wires as Normally Closed?

There are three terminals on the switches:

  • NC (Normally Closed)
  • COM (Common)
  • NO (Normally Open)

You only use two wires. You want to connect one wire to the COM, and the other wire to the NC terminal

COM is usually in the middle. Use a meter to test which of the other terminals are open when not pressed (NO) or closed when not pressed (NC)
