Upgrade before or after cutting new struts?

So I know that if I dissassemble my LR3, I will need to print a bunch of temp struts and extra bits. Whats eating at me is that to cut the struts on my LR3 means digging up old wounds since I could never get past the last step of getting it set up. No matter what I did switching the wires and pins it wouldnt home correctly so I gave up.

I was using the skrpro board, everything was brand new, but I figure just like with my old 3d printer klipper days, I can just put it behind me since newer solutions have come out like the jackpot (which I have now too).

I know the jackpot setup is way more user friendly and if it means wasting some plastic to not have to try and figure out the skrpro board… Im leaning that way for sure.

you already have the LR3 built, why dont you just swap the controller boards and try to make it work with that, do some stuff, and just take your time with the new build? you can get some experience in by doing this.
