Total cnc noob attempted build

I cba with most people tbh. It’s bad enough being self employed and dealing with them

Far prefer animals.

… I’ve become a grumpy old man

But animals don’t pay you.

Tried an Aztec calendar today and had issues, x axis. I’ve seen this before. Not slipping, but always seems to be files from my mac. Never had it from my windows laptop but perhaps coincidence- it’s also an old sd card. Could either of these be known issues? I did scale the calendar and it did warn me of potential issues, but I assumed it’s because I went from 60x60 to 30x30 tbh and overlaps from a 12mm v bit more than losing x position.

So it’s 100% the mac and parallels. Did it again today on a file I tested, then tested the wintendo surface thing.

I’ve always liked these. Where did you get the file? Also what software and cutters? Nice!!

I got it here - CNCnutz: Making an Aztec Calendar Part 1 - Episode 149

I used a 12mm 90 degree v bit I got free amongst others with my £15 router… its not perfect and I doubt perfectly 90 degrees tbh.

I used a 1/4 to cut round the outside.

It took about 4 hours I think give or take

So many things to try, luckily my neighbours ( bar one who I dont speak to ) have given me bits of old wood after witnessing it today  I really want to try an STL - carve and I got some metal to try as well

Bit of a random morning here, I have purchased something called a spindle. I know very little about these other than I used to use inverters at work LONG ago… and the training is a far, distant memory.

It is as listed, “ 2.2KW ER20 220V Water cooled spindle, inverter, water pump and collets kit “

I managed to get it for £125 with the inverter and water pump / pipes which I hope isn’t a bad deal? My hope is its a little quieter for the neighbours than my £15 china noise machine. If anyone has any info on these before I go delving into research, I would be appreciative.

That is a pretty incredible deal! The few times I have seen them in action - they are brutes. The Onefinity CNC machines are kind of designed for these. Those can definitely cut through metal - but please finish the gantry!

Make sure you use some algaecide to keep the water coolant from getting gross.

Aluminium, which kind of is the wood of metal.

Antifreeze does the trick, and distilled water.
