Hey all, I’ve got an STL that I want to slice into several 15mm thick sections vertically so I can cut them one by one and stack them later. What’s the best way to do that?
I want to build a Skateboard mold, but I can’t 3D mill it, since it is too deep in places and would take hours. So I want to split it, glue it together and then erase the imperfections (because it will obviously have some since stacked 2D cutouts won’t completely give you the form you need).
Street Deck - Progressive Both Molds.zip (151.4 KB)
Thanks, never heard of it because it was made part of Fusion 360 and then deprecated there as well…
I don’t know why, it was such a cool little program. maybe someones passion project
It does exactly what I wanted! Thanks so much.
I’m glad I was able to help you find the solution to your question
cough cough
You sure did. If you can now tell me how to export those cut lists as DXFs I’d be totally happy.
Nevermind, found it. Aaaand you need to be signed in. Which does not work. Meh.
Get plans - change it to DXF
Found that, needs a login… -_-
Meshmixer from Autodesk can also do this, tried it with the Lowrider Core.
But 123D Make seems to be the better alternative. Thank you @Dreyfus , I didn’t know the program before
Ah right, hang on looks like they took down the login servers so you can only use PDF writer.
But the same program is
https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/tsarticles/ts/3yg7zznS94MHNDG7KMV8Qg.html
which uses your fusion login.
I’ve just tried exporting a dxf from that and it works
you can send me the file and I’ll chop it and send it back if you like.
Thanks, let me try that one. (Though it has also been discontinued and I didn’t find the download before…)
@Tokoloshe you could import the STL to Estlcam and chose “Umwandeln in 2D Zeichnung”
Does it make slices then?
No, first export the slices from 123D Make as STL
My computer crashed doing the windows update so I am not trying anything for the next hour…
Will try that slicer thingy though, thanks.
Oh thats cool, theres a 3d slice option that creates a stack of stls the thickness of your material - so you could 3d carve it in sections and assemble them
That slicer thingy does not work for me… Argh. The insulation hangs.
Send me the thing and I’ll chop it up for you
